Why am I still doing Android Development?

This is a question I’ve been thinking about and a few friends have asked. It’s a valid question with how much I talk about wanting to move to security and the steps I’m taking to get there. The answer is simple though...money.

It’s not always feasible to drop your bread and butter while you switch careers so you have to make it work. For me I took most of summer trying to split my time between mobile dev and security. I didn’t want to but at the end of the day everyone has bills. I’m being transparent because I don’t want anyone to assume I have unlimited time and resources for this.

Do I regret it? No. Luckily for me I had Chain React Conf and DefCon planned already, but now what? Honestly...I don’t know. I’ll regroup and come back stronger. The biggest limitation for me recently has been not having a car so I have to fit in making that work fairly soon. What about work? Rest assured I’m good. I don’t naturally quit. I actually worked 4 jobs one year of school and never realized until tax season. What about security? As I said on twitter, I live in a vacuum for the next 2 weeks as I get that worked out. I have a few test to take, courses to buy...all that stuff. Regardless of what happens I’ll get things done.
