There are my skill goals for the next 6 mos. I'm writing this at the end of November because 6 mos will end a month before my birthday. I can admit I'm really not trying to do nothing but spend money at that time. lol Anyway to the goals! ## Goals - Red Hat Linux Engineer - Gitlab Pipelines SME - Container generalist - End-to-End system setup SME - Cloud generalist - Security Tooling generalist ## Why these goals? I've come to realize that in today's tech scene the career I've picked is really about being a "master of none". I hate that and I'm finding it really hard to adjust to. With this list I'm hoping to give myself enough space to be a decent generalist with some core skills. I think I've talked about before having that "E" shape for skills. I'm still keeping that in mind but I think when it comes to my SRE (devops?) branch of knowledge I have to do something a little different to become an expert. ## How do you plan on doing these things? I'm not sure to be honest. I'm going to just take things one step at a time. I've honestly have too much going on. I'm an adult and can admit that. I just want to really make sure that when I hit my 10years in industry mark I have the skills that will continue to make me good money in my active retirement. I don't want to pretend like this will be structured either. I'm just going to only give myself a weekend between doing things. That's the only way to keep things going. I have other hobbies and stuff to maintain as well and I figure as long as I give them space to breath as well I'll figure out some type of balance.
