I'm a little late but Happy New Year! If you noticed in the title I doesn't have "new me". Why? I'm not changing much of anything this year. If nothing else I'm doubling down. Last year was a rollercoaster of emotions and risk. This year I'm just going to chill out and do what I do best (build things). Towards the 2nd half of last year I started working on a few things I'd really like to refine this year and I'll explain the real goal how we got here. Those things are intentional day, consistent sleep, and becoming more of a researcher. ## Intentional day I have a lot going on just like everyone else. I'm working full time, have a hobby that is pretty time consuming, and I want to get back into testing out new things. This means that there are probably not enough hours in a day to do everything well. With this in mind I've been testing out how to plan out my day so that everything I do feels like (and does) move the needle towards a goal. As of writing I've found that the gym before work frees up my time for research and hobby things after work. I like the idea, but I'm not a morning person. In fact I don't even enjoy working a normal US schedule as most people know in real life. That's ok though. This fact is irrelevant when I consider the things I want to do. You either light the candle in the morning or at night, but since I would like everything to be the same even on weekends I can no longer pick my night owl life. This leads into the next goal... ## Consistent Sleep Sleep is not a thing I've had real success with in quite some time. I'm "flexible" on it, but I do have a rule that when I feel a certain level of tired I have to let everything go. Consistent sleep means I can get up and be outside on the weekends without a problem, my body can recover better, and I feel rested (not 100% sure on this one but it sounds good). The reason this is ranking even higher on my list now is because I know that good sleep can make or break things now. I guess essentially that has always been the case, but college me and "adult" me aren't in the same space and definitely don't have the same feels towards some of our goals. I don't think real schedules work for me in terms of sleep, so I'm going to try to use really solid routines to trick myself into sleep or a relaxed state. ## More Research This is a bit of a catch all. I'm not 100% sure what it looks like but I would like to have the skills of a quant over the next year. I'm not sure what my obsession is with that field, but it looks pretty cool and I enjoy seeing and analyzing patterns. I'll lean a lot on ai and my random topic searches for this. The easiest first step is getting back into number things. Calculus and Stats will probably be my bread and butter here. ## How I'm Tracking I'm working on an iterative capture to action workflow. I will keep refining those with a goal of taking consistent action. The main points of data dumping is physical notebooks (when learning) and obsidian. I love Obsidian but it's not super mobile friendly (for me) on iOS so on the go I use Notesnook as my capture point. This feels good and logical so I have high hopes that I'll have a nice reflection come the end of the year.
