I've been doing a lot of thinking (per usual). I want to be a super human. The way I've always had something going on goal wise should make that statement pretty predictable. I'm writing about it because I've been looking into mindset training a lot more over the past few weeks. Honestly this started out as a search for competing and trying to find out a plan there, but I think some of this can carry over into career.
## What is mindset training?
Mindset training involves changing how you see yourself and talk to yourself internally to achieve goals. So it's super important when I'm competing because you only get one shot to "do things right" and then you have to move on. That can be really hard to deal with. I have started seeing things for what they are, feeling the things, and immediately trying to forget.
I don't want to forget though, I want to be a data nerd and analyze to make minor adjustments. There is nothing wrong with this mindset. In my career I'd like to think I'm just a bulldozer. I gather information towards a goal and I'll pivot as new data comes out, but once I want a thing nothing stops me outside of being sick. This is also not healthy. When I'm into this mindset too deep I can keep working past my limits until I'm actually sick. I want a balance both at work and in competition.
## What did you use for research?
Mostly Youtube. lol I have one book I want to recommend by a well known sports psychologist. The book is called "With Winning In Mind" by Lanny Bassham. The TLDR: he gives you a high level of his mindset system he has used himself to win Olympic metals and to train athletes. The book was so good that I finished it in 2 days with lots of highlights and notes on my desk to digest.
## So what's the plan?
Well I'm going to start at the top of finding a goal that forces me to change my life and that I actually want. I've always had goals but I wouldn't say anything really forces a major life change. I would like to figure out what that type of goal really looks like. Unfortunate from this space that collects my random thoughts, I probably won't share outside of my close friend group.
## How are you tracking?
OOOOOOOOOOO you know I love this question. I'll be updating my daily habit app (Daylio) to fit the new goals. I also still journal and have all types of notebooks. I think the really progress will be seen more through my journal more than anything else. I like seeing the consistency numbers on Daylio though so I'll keep with my combination use of both.
## Will you checkin?
I think so. I've written a blog post for every cert, big life shift so far. I've been writing on here since the last time I was confused about "what's next" shortly after grad school. lol I'm going to keep those same vibes. I suspect milestones won't look the same though. I guess we will figure it out together as long as you stay around.
