Long ago in a pre-covid world I started having more health issues and thought "I should make an app to track what's going on". That's right ladies and gents I hyper focused with this new platform called flutter and built a full app. I thinks it's a pretty cool way to store notes for dr/health appointments in one place.
You could use your notes app but long term I wanted this to be a multi-platform application so that I could move between all my systems without issues. Well life got busy so I was finding it really hard to use my own app (I had switched to full apple) and to keep it up to date (I'm extremely anti-flutter now). Well now that we have some cool AI tools and my medical things are back I thought "Why not convert to a website?". I started using cursor and claude code to do just that. I'll talk a little about my journey and the future work.
> TLDR: An Android app (Medical Notes) I wrote back in 2019 has now been converted to a [website](https://medicalnotes.innominateapps.com) thanks to AI code tools. This isn't about Cursor or Claude Code per se, and I am also totally against flutter so I'm unsure if there will ever be another mobile app.
**Have to take a pause here and say that due to some differences with Google I wouldn't download this app from google play anymore. If you can find it cool, but other wise please use the website until further notice.**
## Application Description
When medical events happen do you write things down in random places? Do you have pictures in your phone, notes in notes app, and maybe even notes on paper? If this sounds like you then this app can help you consolidate all of that.
The Medical Notes app allows you to keep your notes from medical events/doctors appointments and medication subscriptions in one place. Consolidate your notes and let them travel with you wherever you are.
## Why This App?
I've had some small medical things going on for awhile. I stopped going to Urgent Care and ERs so much, but I was still taking notes. Because I was also using all Apple I didn't feel bad putting things in my notes. Now that I've stopped using my Mac for work everything and looking at going back to Android I really needed to migrate those notes to the app. I didn't want to go dig through the backend of my own app either.
Since I've been testing out using AI tools more to see how to fit them in a workflow I figured this would be the perfect test. I already had a functioning flutter app so the tool just had to use it as a reference and build a site. What prompted (see what I did there) me to move faster on finishing this was that I've recently been dealing with medical stuff again. With all the gaps in my records from different places and not remembering who I've seen for what/what they said, I thought I need my app more than ever. Funny enough since using the app again and trying to make it user friendly I've started remembering a lot of things I've been prescribed and told throughout the years. This was my whole purpose of building the app. It's truly for me, but I want it to help others who might be in the same space as well.
## So What's Next?
I want to say I know but I don't. I need to create a feature request form that can push to my issues board so maybe that's next?
I have a few upgrades I want to add to the app like storing the names and doses of medication. Maybe even track your main doctors/visited doctors. I really don't know. Wanting to build this out to a more robust platform requires me to 5x my security with every new addition. I've already talked to a friend who does these types of things to see if they can help me out. I don't want users to have to worry about their information and such like that as I add features or make changes for the better under the hood.
Honestly I just want this to be for everyone who needs it. I'd like to keep it as free as possible but if we build something so good that I can't maintain this myself we will adjust. I've said it multiple times at this point, but I truly need this app just as much if not more than the next person. That's what's going to keep this app growing and new ideas flowing.
## What Is The Maintenance Schedule?
Again, I don't really know that yet. I do know that as I fix things on the web I'll just be pushing them after a 1 week rest period. I'll be adding a changelog page soon so that everyone knows what all I changed. This will be something that I try to work on atleast once a month though until it seriously fizzles out to die, I switch it to self-hosting, or the aliens come to fix everything (kidding).
### No Mobile App?
No mobile updates will be made at this time. If enough people request it I will reconsider. I don't really see the need to pay for iOS development or deal with Google at this time.
