As the title states I have a Framework 13. I decided to get this computer when I was trying to figure some things out with my career and decided that I should get a DIY laptop that can grow with me for the next 5-7 years. I decided to get a Windows version for...well I'm not sure but it's worked amazing for the past year. I've gone to a few conferences, traveled with it, and done a lot of my homelab work from this computer. My spec list is below:
```text
- Windows 11 Home
- 13th gen intel x64
- 32GB of ram (started at 16GB)
- 256GB M2
- 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1340P, 1900 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
```
## What went Right?
My computer has made it this far. The ram upgrade was super easy and outside of me pushing the computer to it's max everything has gone well. I even put stickers on my laptop which is something I haven't done seriously in awhile. I've got a slim version of my homelab at any point in time. I'm really not mad at this purchase at all so thank you framework for making a really cool laptop. I'm hoping to diy another 13 one of these days but until then it's been a wild year with just one laptop powering everything,
## What Went Wrong?
I was being cheap. That's usually the problem with these things honestly. I need more power. I'm not a light user and never have been. I should have gotten as close to my Mac specs as possible. Can't rewrite the past, BUT I can beef up everything to the max. Note to anyone else buying a laptop, take what you think you want and 2x it.
## What's Next?
Well since my computer just keeps randomly going black I think 2 things need to happen. I need a bigger harddrive and I want to make this another Linux laptop. Oh yea....recently I bought the framework 16....I don't know if that's a mistake yet since I'm still heavy on my 13, but we can talk about that in another post.
I have to spend some time documenting how I'm doing this move back to my X1 Carbon as well as doing the actual migration. I don't think it will take long since I lean heavy on Dropbox and my homelab, but you never know. I think the hardest part will be making sure I have all my shortcuts together.
Once I have everything moved over I want to put Fedora KDE on my laptop (Thanks for convincing me Ethan!). This keeps me in the RHEL system and I can compare and contrast things between Fedora and Rocky Linux. I'm going to be a RHEL SME by 32 (I have until next June), and I think this will just help me hit that goal faster.
My hope is that will this "travel" Linux computer I will make a full conversion to Linux for everyday use with Windows as my backup. There is nothing wrong with Linux I just want to walk the walk ya know. The best way to gain experience is to jump and with the mindset of "sink or swim".
