This title is a little misleading, but I'm here to talk about using static IPs in your homelab. Should you do it? yes! I can understand why you might think otherwise because I was thinking the same thing. If you really want to love yourself Then you should set static IPs. ## How does one do this? If you know subnetting this might be easier. I'm pretty average (on a good day) so the way I did this was I just decided to take octet 20-30. From my knowledge this shouldn't conflict with anything on my network and if it does I'll just cry and +60 everything. lol ## Why do this? So honestly I did this after my place had a few power outages. Do you know how hard it is to get back to your server and NAS when the IP changes so much? I was getting so pissy over it. I would have to open my deco app (router) and then re-bookmark all of my links. Anyway back to the why, love yourself. Keep your bookmarks consistent, and set your most used devices to your fav last octet number. ## Instructions? Ah my friends usually I have steps for you. This time I failed. I just been google-ing my little time away and everything is different per OS. So just google "how to set static IP on <OS-goes-here>". Anything you have as a server, NAS, and common computer you should set an IP for.
